Public Health Society Against Infectious Diseases (PHSAID)

Mission

Our mission is to improve the health of individuals and communities through surveillance, advocacy, research and strategic partnerships. We are dedicated to delivering outstanding leadership and empowering volunteers and local communities with peer-led training on infectious diseases, including their prevention and control.

On Surveillance:

  1. To gather and share up-to-date public health information and reliable data on infectious diseases with individuals, communities, society, and relevant organizations.

  2. To monitor and analyze the global and local burden of infectious diseases, including emerging and re-emerging diseases.

  3. To adhere to ethical standards and conduct diagnostic tests on individuals and/or groups within communities to facilitate accelerated detection and response to infectious diseases.

On Advocacy:

  1. To promote the prevention of infectious diseases through public awareness (health education) and vaccination.

  2. To promote health and improve access to quality healthcare and public health services at the individual and community levels.

  3. To encourage the completion of treatment courses for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases, in order to reduce drug resistance.

  4. To advocate for increased funding for health programmes, as well as greater investment in infectious disease preparedness and response.

On Research:

  1. To support innovation and the generation of new ideas and knowledge.

  2. To participate in public health research and health interventions.
  3. To track and report the effectiveness of drugs and/or vaccines in communities or different populations in order to develop guidelines for best practices and ensure high-quality patient care.

On Partnerships:

  1. To work with organizations and relevant agencies and/or government ministries to reduce illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths from vaccine-preventable infectious diseases.

  2. To share vital information about infectious diseases with relevant organizations to enable the timely identification of individuals in need of immediate treatment.

  3. To collaborate with relevant organizations worldwide to promote professional development opportunities and secure funding for original scientific research.

On Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The PHSAID, as a public health-driven non-profit making organization, is focused on achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Our mandate is to help combat infectious diseases especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The organization's blueprint is mainly anchored on SDGs:

  • Goal 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages),
  • Goal 4 (Quality education),
  • Goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation), and
  • Goal 17 (Partnership for the goals).
