Public Health Society Against Infectious Diseases (PHSAID)

Mission

Our mission is to improve the health of individuals, communities and society through surveillance, advocacy, research and partnerships. We are committed to providing outstanding leadership and peer-to-peer training of volunteers and local communities on infectious diseases, their prevention and control.

On Surveillance:

 

  1. To gather and share up-to-date public health information and reliable data on infectious diseases to individuals, communities, society and relevant organizations.
  2. To monitor and analyze global and local burden of infectious diseases including emerging and re-emerging diseases.
  3. Adherence to ethical standards, conduct diagnostic tests on individuals and/or groups in communities to facilitate accelerated infectious disease detection and response.

On Advocacy:

 

  1. For prevention of infectious diseases through public awareness (health education) and vaccination. 
  2. For promotion of health and access to quality healthcare and public health services at the individual and community level.
  3. For the completion of treatment courses to end tuberculosis, other infectious diseases and drug resistance.
  4. For increased funding for health programmes as well as investment in infectious diseases preparedness and response.

On Research:

 

  1. Supporting innovation and the generation of new ideas and knowledge.
  2. Tracking and reporting drugs and/or vaccine effectiveness in communities or different population in order to develop guidelines for best practices and to ensure high-quality patient care.

On Partnerships:

 

  1. To work with organizations and relevant agencies and/or ministries of governments to reduce illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths from vaccine-preventable infectious diseases.
  2. To share vital information about infectious diseases with relevant organizations to enable timely identification of people in need of immediate treatment.
  3. To work with relevant organizations worldwide for collaboration and professional development opportunities and funding for original scientific research.

On Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The PHSAID, as a public health-driven non-profit making organization, is focused on achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Our mandate is to help combat infectious diseases especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The organization's blueprint is mainly anchored on SDGs:

  • Goal 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages),
  • Goal 4 (Quality education),
  • Goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation), and
  • Goal 17 (Partnership for the goals).
